Week 9 - First home page

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

So .. guess what? We changed our idea again.

We still focus on the need for belonging and community building - but in a different way.

The new idea:

An app that will connect people living nearby (500 meters) based on ages and interests.

So how will it work?

When you sign in to the app, you define your age range and interests (for example, sports, art, work from home, and more).

On the home page of the app, you can see "activities you might like" filtered by the interests and age range you have defined.

Below you can see "all activities" and there you can see all the activities that take place in your area regardless of a particular filter. In addition, you can enter a calendar and see all the regular activities that take place regularly once a week/month, etc. The app will know how to recommend activities that are suitable for you according to the interests you have defined and according to your activity history. Each user will have a profile with a picture, age, interests, and residential address.

Our Process

We interviewed 15 people, all moved to a new living environment in the last few years. The interviews revealed that most people don't know the people who live around them."There is not much of a communal life, the neighbors are quite alienated and distant ...". They share the most lacking element in their living environment; N. moved from Haifa to a shared apartment in Tel Aviv, says, "In general, there is no sense of community, everyone lives for themselves. I do not feel like I live in a community, but in an area where a lot of people live. Knowing the people in my area and community is what I miss most. In my opinion, Community life has many advantages, everyone shares their expertise and does things for each other, which contributes a lot to a more comfortable life”. In addition, 25-year-old S. has just moved with her partner from Gderot to Ramat Aviv, and says, "I find it difficult to meet new people at my age around here. I didn't grow up in this area, so I am not well acquainted”. Most of the end users are interested in knowing the people living around them better. Everyone was open to joining activities that people in the immediate area will initiate, and most of them were also willing to consider initiating activities themselves. “I would love to have more social opportunities in my area, more everyday things and not necessarily special events. All kinds of small opportunities that will give us the opportunity to get to know each other better...", "I would like something that speaks more to my age group, some happening with music and drinks and maybe dancing or games, or alternatively activities and volunteering for the neighborhood, like renovation or painting…","I would love to join a running group composed of people my age who live nearby...","going for walks with our dogs together”. T., 25, who moved to Tel Aviv with her partner, shares: "I think that in Tel Aviv there are a lot of social opportunities of all kinds, but these opportunities are not always accessible ...".

Therefore, we believe that with the help of the app, people will be able to feel a stronger sense of belonging to their immediate living environment. It would be done by creating a close community, in which more meaningful relationships will be developed through joint activities according to personal interest.

Home page - First Draft

We interviewed 3 people about the app and these are the things that came up:

- The interface is too small and difficult to read, the proportions need to be increased.

- The text at first is not necessary, you can write something else that will encourage activity.

-It is not clear that the calendar below is a regular activity and that the things above are occasional activities.
